Find Your Rhythm
Blues Dance Workshop
On Saturday 18 July, we're hosting an intimate 3-hour workshop bringing together teachers and dancers from different Blues communities across the island.
The idea is simple: to create an exchange between the different Blues scenes around the country. Each community develops its own perspectives, influences, and ways of approaching Blues dancing, and there's always something we can learn from one another. This workshop is an opportunity to share ideas, discover new approaches, and connect with dancers from across Ireland.

Class Level
This is an All Levels workshop but we would encourage you to attend at least 8 Bluesday Drop-in Classes prior to the workshop (either with Downtown Blues or your local scene).
With teachers from different Blues communities, you'll explore a variety of ideas, techniques, and approaches to Blues dancing, with something valuable for dancers of all experience levels.
Class Information
Every corner of Ireland approaches Blues dancing a little differently, and that’s where the magic happens. The classes below are curated to give you a taste of different regional perspectives and connect you with dancers from all over the island.
Presence and Connection — with Lewis (Cork)
Start your day by bringing your whole self to the floor. This session is designed to help you ground yourself, clear the outside noise, and connect deeply with the present moment and your partner. This class will help you ground your energy and set a collaborative, present tone for the rest of the workshop.
Anatomy of the Blues — with Mike (Rebel Blues, Cork)
To dance the blues deeply, we have to understand its pulse. Which elements in a blues song inspire our dancing, and how closely do we pay attention? In this class we're going to look into the soul of some blues tracks to uncover what's hidden beneath the surface. Will our discoveries change or inform how we dance to these tracks?
Isolations, Lag, and Flow — with Marta (Downtown Blues, Dublin)
Ready to unlock a higher level of body control? This class is all about mastering the art of isolations. We’ll focus on micro-body awareness, balance, and fluid movement, including how followers can utilise lag to transform their connection.
Groovin' at the Duck
After a day of classes, join us for an evening of music, conversation, and connection. This is our chance to mix, mingle, and share the floor with dancers from every corner of Ireland. Our DJs will be setting the perfect mood with a mix of Blues music, so come ready to share a dance, share a laugh, and connect with the island's vibrant community.
Workshop participants already have access to the social night as part of their ticket.
Not joining the workshops? You can still hit the dance floor with us! Social-only tickets are available on Eventbrite and at the door.
